C. P. San Julián is located in the town center and features a free plot, rectangular in shape, with an area of 8,741 m2. There are two buildings for remodeling: the old school from the 1960, and a second building with 70 classrooms. The remodeling consisted of adapting both constructions to new laws for schools, complete replacement of facilities, adapting construction to current accessibility standards, and the construction of a new gym.

The most remodeling work takes place in the oldest building, the old school with its distinctive red brick. Although formally it is a single building, in terms of operation and organization it is actually two. Thus, we reorganize the entire internal distribution, placing the administrative area and library downstairs, and classrooms on the upper level. We therefore separate the administration from all the bustle of the main building.

In the main building, classrooms are well arranged, oriented toward the south with cross ventilation. Gallery areas function not only as a connection, but also privde shade.

The internal organization of the building is also changed completely, since in the previous layout, only the ground floor of the building functioned as a single unit, and the upper floor had two separate areas (north and south pavilion).

We also change the main entrance to the school, now under the shade of three large pine trees that shelter the student entrance.

The new gym is at the southeast corner of the site, connecting to the main building via a new covered porch. At first, we thought of placing it next to the arena but this had two problems, the first was that it would force us to occupy the only unpaved area school, and second that it would not be possible to connect this building with other buildings via covered areas. Special care has been put in the ventilation of the room, achieved through the chimney effect induced in the double chamber of the large windows.

The project has taken into account the good integration into its urban environment and its adaptation to the climatic conditions, maximizing the available orientations, local materials, the aesthetic composition of architecture, as well as the building and facilities regulations.

For the choice of materials and facilities, we have considered their technical characteristics to ensure adequate durability with minimal maintenance expenses.

Sections

All the rooms have direct natural light and ventilation. All spaces are related properly, avoiding long circulations and ensuring the visual integration of all the interior spaces of the building. This way, we have grouped classrooms and teaching spaces on the basis of school functionality, and their layout is according to age groups.
