[...] St. Albans School, was founded in 1909 and is a well known boys’ school from the USA. Recently, a makeover of the institution was necessary, so the company hired was Skidmore, Owings & Merrill (SOM). The brief was to create a large (25,000-square-foot) expansion for the building and also to renovate the place almost entirely. A connection between the school’s four separate constructions was also required and of course it had to be as “natural” as possible. The architects took advantage of the location and created amazing interior and exterior passage areas, which join the buildings. Also, a completely new construction was raised, named Marriott Hall, which provides and aesthetic contrast with the rest of the project. The classes are spacious and lighting (artificial as well as natural) was an intensely studied facto by the team. What a nice place for spending some quality time learning! – via [...]

Have'nt you noticed they hadn't changed thei neofunctionist approach since their debut in the sixties? its nothing new here and the game with material trying to go along with older neighbourhood is quite dull i guess.

Agreed, they blend the old and new nicely. The exterior stone choice is what really makes it work. Nice to see that aesthetic is still timeless.
