Architectural photographer Iwan Baan recently shot the Observatory House, designed by Mexican artist Gabriel Orozco and built by architect Tatiana Bilbao in Roca Blanca, Mexico.

The house is inspired on the Jantar Mantar Astronomical Observatory, built in Delhi in 1724.

Stefano Boeri from Abitare interviewed Gabriel Orozco about this project, where you can read more about his vision.

More photos of the house with one of the best pools I have ever seen, after the break.

CREDITS

Concept: Gabriel Orozco
Design: Tatiana Bilbao with Gabriel Orozco & Carlos Leguizamo.
Structure: Jesús del Castillo, Ramiro González Dávila.
Local Contractor: David Jiménez

Is this project a house or a swimmingpool… Some layouts and sections would be much appreciated. No doubt they would be very interesting and worth posting.

I think it’s a swimming pool after all… The house is just additional purpose..

Agree with Gorgos…The project is presented as an exterior project and is lacking in interior/living perspectives. The only two thumbnails provided are fairly ambiguous and definitely should receive the same attention as those great exterior spaces. We could probably use a site plan as well; it appears that a great deal of thought was given to how the architecture touches the landscape. Interesting project though!

While the shots are beautiful. It’s a bit misleading when you title the project Universe House, Taitana Bilbao by Iwan Baan.

Very misleading actually.

man, i would really like to own that house, the pool and platform are just great, … the interior looks a bit dull and ordinary though, but who wants to be inside anyway with a view like that from the rooftop….

very good idea. The only one proplem: the cheap living interior spaces. But I think understand why: this building is somewhere by the sea, so oversee it would be problematic.

i think that the site makes the house. if the place and the surrounding view weren’t that beautiful i guess the house wouldn’t look so appealing… anyway, the cheap interior spaces and its simplicity kind of match the picture so it is a good work.

Ich mag dieses Haus, in der Nähe des Meeres. Und Ich mag die billigen Innenräume, sie sehen so anhört, wie in der Nähe des Meeres. Wirklich tolles Projekt. Bravo! (Translate: I really like this house, nearby the sea. And I like the cheap interiors, they look like beeing nearby the sea. Really great project. Bravo)
