These modern open-plan living rooms are very minimalist and designer and seem to have lots of cool space saving devices and furniture. The views look good in the Winter. But you definitely need a wall inserted fire like one of the HIW ranges here - http://www.findleyhouse.co.uk/hole-in-the-wall-gas-fires.aspx

this is the kind of concept (look at the living room's open-plan design) that will definitely benefit with a designer, minimalist wall mounted electric fire to complement it.
like this one maybe? http://www.directfiresonline.co.uk/Hang-on-the-Wall/category17.aspx

Yes it does snow here, just not in very many places....one place that springs to mind is the Snowy Mountains....
This was still being built when I was there in winter last year. I do like their earlier contribution at Falls Creek, the HUSKI Apartments. It has a great outdoor spa right by the passing road.
