“…and make it the Earth’s greenest and tallest building.”

This is a joke. If people keep repeating the type of marketing rubbish the whole idea of “green” building will become meaningless. There is nothing you can realistically do to make a 101 storey pile of air conditioned glass and metal green.

apparently its not 20 million dls, but 20 million New Taiwan dls, or ~600.000dls.

spot on. it´s just embarassing.
but probably the 1.8 to 20 million ratio is only marketing. (if it is lower, then its the marketeers mocking architects and engineers, if its higher, its a shame on everybody! lol)

nonetheless assuming these recent mistakes is a sign of recent stupidity/greed, its simply embarassing, and disrespectfull: to the environment, to future generations, to everybody that actually gives a damn.

well, at least they are trying to correct it…(though its only for economic purposes).

I think its time to make a prize to tallest and most LEED-unfriendly buildings in the world.

Astonishing (in a bad way). What does it say about Taipei 101 when a mere $1.8 million investment of technology for a billion dollar building yields over $20 million in annual savings? If they got that much savings out of the deal, I’m baffled why they didn’t consider employing some of the technology when they were building it just a couple years ago.

On the bright side, at least they’re moving on from the whole “tallest” craze – not that they have much choice, since the Burj tower already overtook them…
