Way to over analyze it.

What makes you think that the garage doors aren't triple insulated or that the space is only temporarily furnished? They do make insulated garage doors after all and triple pane windows. Check out the BatesMasi website, the building was also photographed in the winter, with the same furnishings. Okay, so it's cleaned up a bit for the photos - that doesn't mean it's temporarily furnished.

12'x16'??? Did you print out and scale this? It's good to see that you recognize the nice details and the probable minimized waste.

[...] Over time, these oiled hardwood and veneered surfaces will slowly darken. Outside, rough sawn tongue and groove Western Red cedar siding defines the spaces beneath the house’s red-dyed concrete paneled shell. In contrast to the permanence and vibrancy of the panels, the boards will mature to a mellow, weathered, silvery gray conducting their own dialogue with the elements. In and through time the house will mature and evolve. It is designed to be in dialogue with the environment and with its owners, changing in subtle ways only noticeable to those who really know it.
Quite lovely, nicely detailed, but it will not be sustainable to heat when/if it becomes a year 'round home given those garage door openings to the non-screened "screened deck."

Apparently in the desire to photograph/publish as soon as complete it's unfortunate we have to view it only temporarily furnished.

The modularity of the design establishes an even, balanced structure/order to the plan and I suspect, given the 12'x16' basic component probably minimized waste during construction.

I love this with it's pure and simple (yet thought out) details. Glad to see that the driveway is NOT paved. This is a wonderful little piece of work. Way to go Bates Masi! Nice job.
