This is a great project. The area is very protected and isolated so only a few projects get through the council and rightly so. By investing in a hotel like this it creates awareness and helps protect what we have left.
Think about it mark, this is a single level low impact design which responds to its locality very well.
This isn't about being invisible, it's about being respectful.

What's with all the hysterical tree huggers?

Lovely project.

My only comment is more about interior design, the lobby, lounge and restaurant areas are too cold, a darker color palette and wood would had been nice.

[...] Though the vast expanse of the Southern Ocean is just sufficient to make any place inhabitable, when you add the expertise of Max Pritchet Architect to it, it gets better than it was ever. Hailed as Australia’s first “Super Lodge” by Tatler Magazine, the Southern Ocean Lodge unifies impressive architecture with the surrounding ambiance. Spread across over a 1,548 sqm are on the Kangaroo Island, the lodge has twenty one suites with sloping roofs — where every fourth suite slants obliquely, on a fixed pattern. Also, the green minded will be happy to know that the eco-friendly thingy is being taken care of using locally generated electricity, rainwater harvesting technologies, an organic waste treatment system, timber frames and the pebbled flooring.
[...] Nestled in a dramatic landscape of cliffs and beaches, the Southern Ocean Lodge is both surrounded by nature and dependant on it. The Kangaroo Island resort was designed by architect Max Pritchard and exists off the grid by collecting rainwater, generating electricity and organically treating waste on site. Untouched Australian bush crowds the resort, which has large glass walls that face the ocean and wavy curves that link guest suites to the sea. Guest suites were built from lightweight, prefabricated materials that were easily carted on site, minimizing impact to the area. [via archdaily] [...]

I agree with Mark.
Look at the aerial view.
This is a horrible scar on the landscape.
And for what?
A bunch of $1000/night hotel rooms.
Where's the sensitivity in that?
I can't believe the local authorities allowed such a development on a site like that. They clearly don't value their natural assets.

Agreed, but i would be inclined to blame the developer/client before the architect.
