It looks like many things, for its fundamental idea.

They should have chosen some non-political colour. Or no colour at all.
Now it's just a communist shadow over the site.

For me the coordinate of "Expo" and" traditional wooden brackets" was the same point of Japanese pavillion 1992 and China Pavillion 2010. I won't say is it bad nor good, but if I were the designer I might find some new gag for my own country expo pavillion.

a bold project.
has a lot to say about china's culture and carries that meaning across.
not the prettiest building around but very conceptual, simple and elegant.

I can not got the meaning of this pavilion, which has poor idea and structure.Maybe they wanted to creat the original building by using the element which from the traditional architecture. But what I can understand is that all the chinese architects are trying to creat their own architectureal skills.

yeah. Looks like what Arata Isozaki did in the 60s
But Isozaki's idea was to provide an alternative typology for housing. According to Isozaki, those tree trunks are inhabitable.
http://workjes.files.wordpress.com/2008/01/c-in-the-air.jpg

While for He JingTang, I guess it was just to mimmick an old element in Chinese Architecture and scale it up for the expo...
http://www.yingchengj.com/jpg/14.jpg
Still, the thing holds the roof. Not really a new design in any way but I guess his idea was to make something BIG with local (and here historical) technology... successful huh?

You can argue the origin. Who did what first, or what looks like what.

Chinese did the dougong 2000 years ago.
But the problem is, why still showing it some 2000 years later?
