With the aim to create a new and contemporary urban space. the Nanjing Road Mixed Use Area proposal by RTA-Office distributes the volumes on the parcel in order to get an open public space and an intimate one simultaneously. The many passages throughout the 200,000 square-meter project offers walk paths for residents and visitors as it occupies an entire block of the city of Qingdao. More images and architects’ description after the break.

We have studied thoroughly the environment and character of the city to propose a project that the city can feel its own project and that has a unique character. Qingdao is famous for the Tsingtao brewery, established in the city by the Germans and that produces Tsingtao beer, the most famous in China and exported all over the world.

This strong reference suggested us both the shape of the project and the colors. We paid special attention to the configuration of the volumes; we set them very carefully and in a harmonious way. And also we paid attention to color-scheme; the result gives a touch of elegance and warmth to the complex. Different uses are distributed in buildings: Residential, Hotel (Boutique Hotel), Offices, Commercial, Sport, and Cultural.

All public functions are placed on the ground level and on lower floors, giving social life to the complex.
