I was able to visit this when I did a studio project on the coast right after Katrina. I remember it being a piece of architecture that took advantage of local ready made materials and generally was able to represent and rethink the local building traditions. Probably the most responsible piece of architecture that we often overlook.

The patterning of the wood slats and the polycarbonate panels bringing this pattern to the interior really make this project.

To the naysayers who think this project is “boring”, I dare you to design and build something better on what was likely a less-than-shoestring budget. It’s a great project, and inspiring.

I like the look of this building and great job with the construction. I only wonder how profitable the building will be… it looks like it only has 4 machines, possibly only 2 washers and 2 dryers, I think the design lacks a good spatial analysis.

I didn’t find it boring, the project itself is quite simple and clean, and if you think it was built by non professionals, the quality of the execution seems pretty high…
