The main renovation work for La Candela nursery and primary school, built by the architect Josep Maria Vives in 1931, was to erect a separate staircase and lift by the central axis of the building, and also to carry out extensive interior remodelling.

The new nursery and primary school is divided into three parts: the central part will house the large areas, such as the hall, the sports hall, and the library, while the two side wings will house the classrooms and services.

The new staircase will be made out of materials such as coloured expanded steel to produce a sensation of lightness and interplay of transparencies and superimpositions, to contrast with the tectonics and symmetry of the original building.
