Personally, I disagree. The sketch overhang at the first floor seems to defeat the clarity of the single heavy volume risen above the ground plane. By adding that thicker line the impresson changes from a hovering volume to something that isnt a series of stacked volumes, but at the same moment isnt that pure floating volume either. For that reason the sketch, to me, seems to be in a no mans land of project rhetoric. Also it seems to me that the whole point of making a gesture with a building like this is to purposely unbalance the components; there is something both discomforting and mysterious about a heavy block sitting on nothing but sheets of glass.

And though I understand what is being said about the columns, I like that some of the mystery as to the structure of this beast is revealed in so subtle a way.

If you look at the sketch, the coloumns seem to have been supposed to hold a terrace, that again would underline the 1st floor that now is invisible. I personally think that it is less balanced now, than if that line had been underscored more like in the sketches. Seems to be an issue of not precice enough sketchwork/testing.

Me again..I just wonder why did they leave these two columns at the front..I think it destroys a bit the idea of the big cantiliver...30 more centimeters of facade and they would have been hidden....but I suppose they wanted some ugly stuff to make the rest more beautiful..anyway..good work
