Rem Koolhaas on CNN, the end of the star architect?
CNN’s Talk Asia just featured an interesting interview with Rem Koolhaas. At the beginning of the video we see the Prada Transformer in action.
Highlights of this interview are Dubai, which lead to Koolhaas talking about the public sector and the stimulus, and his views on the Generic City.
When talking about influence (Rem was on the 100 most influential people list by Time magazine in 2008) and “star architects”, Koolhaas sentences the term to death:
“I think it’s a name that is actually degrading to the vast majority of people it is applied to. And it really is a kind of political term that for certain clients is important because they use star architects. My hope is that through the current complexity that title will exit discretely and disappear”.

ha, that’s definitely h&dem’s prada store, not rem’s
not surprise, that’s typical CNN editing
Fools.
ya…. those guys need to involve an architect to interview him… then that’ll be fun….
Yeah, why was Prada Tokyo on there? Is TVCC gone?
Such questions really don’t deserve answers. A little bit under level.
I wonder why RK agreed to wear the CNN jacket, there’s something behind this, he doesn’t give much credit for that sort of media and even less to friendly chit chat… I wonder is he’s seen the final piece with Herzog’s building in it.
Even though it is a paradox to say on CNN you’re not a star he did so in a way it almost looks truthful… but my hunch tells me may be RK is trying to bend the american opinion in favor of a public-project-approach, truly a remarkable thought but also a hidden political whink… what!? anybody thought he just sat there to speak his mind and that’s it? Everything’s lobby
This was a terrible video. Blatant mistakes and poor editing. I did like Rem’s response to the starchitect and celebrity questions.
