German-born and Beijing-based architect Ole Scheeren will reconstruct the wooden Archipelago Cinema within the old harbor basin Darsena Grande of the Arsenale, Venice’s historic shipyard, as an official collateral event for the 13th International Architecture Exhibition. This unique, floating architectural experience became wildly popular when it was first conceived for the Film on the Rocks Yao Noi festival in Thailand.

Serving as a mobile stage for public events, the modular outdoor theater will feature a world premiere of the film Against All Rules. Continue after the break to learn more.

“Against All Rules – the Architect Ole Scheeren” / Horst Brandenburg:

Produced by acclaimed filmmaker and architecture specialist Horst Brandenburg, the documentary essay Against All Rules presents profound insight into the work and philosophy of Ole Scheeren. Spanning over a period of more than six years, the film follows the construction of the iconic CCTV Headquarters in Beijing, where Scheeren acted as lead architect, and reveals a wide-range of ground-breaking projects in Beijing, Bangkok, Singapore and Kuala Lumpur that represent new prototypes in response to the complexity and growing challenges of a global and dramatically shifting world.

As Horst Brandenburg states: “Ole Scheeren has come to stand for what architects have to fulfill beyond primary function: a promise, an aim, a dream, or a vision of the future at the beginning of the 21st century”.

Space is limited on the Archipelago Cinema and only guests with tickets will be allowed entry. To reserve your self a spot, visit the project’s official website.
