Situated in south of the city of Vigneux-sur-Seine near Paris, the school project by AR+TE Architectes consists of the restructuring and a future extension in grouping the classrooms of maternal and elementary class in a single entity. The operation includes the restructuring of all the premises of education (classrooms and extracurricular premises) and the extension by the creation of the educational and psychomotor premises (library, computing and motricity classroom). More images and architects’ description after the break.

Located in a district in urban renovation financed by the ANRU (National Agency for the Urban renovation), the school is lined in the north and in the east by buildings of typical linear housing of eight floors, in the south by a free ground on which the housing is going to be built, and on the west by a suburban district. All the buildings except the extensions were realized by the agency of architecture named AUA between 1969 and 1975. School buildings were thus built by the architects Paul Chemetov and Jean Deroche in the 70’s. These three schools are adaptations of metallic constructive processes of industrial type.

” The interest of the industrialized system of construction lies exactly in the biggest possibilities of combinations that they give us. Indeed, economies inherent to the repetition of elements can be reinvested in the quality of assembly of the groups ” P. Chemetov, J. Deroche. The building in extension will be of mixed constructive type concrete and metal and will include a classroom of motricity, a library, a computer room and toilets with access since the court. These two levels will communicate by an internal circulation of full foot with the building of existing education. The classes of the nursery school will integrate the spaces of the ground floor of the current building and the primary school will occupy the classrooms to the floor.

The new building will answer the same outline of cornice of the existing facades of the whole school complex to be known, sets aluminum with elements it metallic color bardage ochre red. Two courts are planned in a free volume at the ground floor. The new building is established by a single unitarian and compact building constituted nevertheless by three elements of the program: (motricity room, library and computing spaces and toilets), the metallic bardage as well as the structure calls back the metallic system industrialized by the school built in the years 60-70.

Premises situated at the ground floor of the extension, will form ” a base ” bardage wood and accompanied visually the wooden closes between both courses outside and both courts. The works of restructuring of the outer spaces have besides the objective, the creation of an internal central path of distribution of all the buildings by the redefining and the hierarchical organization of circulations and the accesses. The outer spaces will be finished by an element containing the schoolyard and realized by a white building including the sports and the gymnastics spaces.
