Graphically, the grid pattern is a really close copy of Kengo Kuma’s Lotus House, which predates this project by half a decade. But Kuma’s office would never produce such clumsy joinery between the grid panels. Here, they’re attached. In Kuma’s project, the panels are separate and appear to be floating. There is also almost no relationship between the grid and what’s happening on the interior of this project, as opposed to the grid in Kuma’s house, which defines the sides of the spaces.

This is not a bad project, but seriously, try to come up with something that’s not a direct quote of the work of someone else.

Have to disagree here. I don’t like this building at all. It seems to be poor commercial architecture that has been dressed up with a second skin. The carpet is the least of the worries.
