Ice rink ‘PostFinance Arena’ in Bern, Switzerland
Renovation and expansion of the existing stadium, “Bern Arena”. An office complex with 500 workplaces, a restaurant, bar, twenty VIP – lounges, a parking with 200 spaces and a training room buried. Additional bleachers in the existing stadium to increase the capacity of seats. Squares = 17,000. Existing building with reconstruction and expansion during operation by the hockey club SCB.
Urbanism
The urban context with the proximity of public traffic (railway station and various bus lines). The implementation of a very large sports complex in the agglomerate of existing buildings with exhibits of constraints to ensure the operation of stage and BEA expo during the construction period.
Functionality
The stadium is exemplary in terms of its technical equipment and its safety device. Spaces are ultra -flexible and offer users comfort (natural light, work environment)
Ecology / Economy
All materials used meet the criteria requirements for Sustainable Development, the administrative part of the building is accredits Minergie. The construction of the system primary, secondary and tertiary is simple and economical.The operating costs and maintenance are low.

Having been in the Ice Rink I can only say that this is a gorgeous building from the outside. Having said that, the biggest downside is that it is pretty dark in the inside, with very little natural light flowing into the building.
