Gambia University / Snøhetta
Snøhetta create a unified vision for Gambia’s higher level educational institutions with the new University of Gambia. The new university will relocate and unite three of Gambia’s existing formal institutions and one university in a single campus for 15,000 students. In addition to designing with the educational experience in mind, Snøhetta also want the project to set new environmental standards.
Part of this plan involves a solar park for generating energy, a waste management centre and locally done water harvesting. Because the masterplan for the university was previously undeveloped, there was no infrastructure, allowing the architects to re-invent the established western conventions. Snøhetta worked to develop a campus based on Gambian traditions in architecture and culture.

Beautiful project. I would’ve loved it even more if I saw some plans, sections, and elevations.
Yeah, it’s hard to make much sense of this with just external renders, but it looks promising..
I love the embrace of the trees, along with the shape and the wood cladding. I agree w/ Marcus, Sections would be nice
Concepto de “dona”(donuts), de fiferentes alturas y sabores con jardín interior, repetido a la “n”, bonitos renders.. pero hace falta proyecto y una mejor respuesta al clima tropical.
lovely to see work for africa and it really seems to merge
tradition with modernity in an african sense.
marvelous
Nice form,… have they made another inovation in facade construction and integration to the main construction syste? Or is it just another expensive building solutions…? As it is in Africa i expect they made some steps forward in simplfying the building methods.
Interesting.
I like the buildings but why is there no landscape design?
where is the landscape?
I think, that this project is strange, because every building exist without connect with other buildings. Master plan is good but the function may be bad to university campus- every function is in other building without architectural connections.
