The ’365 – Charming Everyday Things’ is a project for an exhibition which introduces 365 Japanese daily items that are to be displayed and sold in Paris and will eventually travel throughout Japan. Produced by DGT Architects, the location was chosen after over 40 visits of places in Paris. The chosen place is originally a metal factory which was built in the 19th century. More images and architects’ description after the break.

The place was set back from the avenue Richard Lenoir. It was to be discovered through a calm courtyard. The old factory had a great character enhanced with the wooden pavements that had been laid on the floor. On the other hands, this aged factory space had already a strong atmosphere which raised further the question of fitting Japan’s daily items in Paris life. What if we combine 365 items into the daily life of Paris like in a cafe corner or a marché? Places reflecting the particular sense of Parisian life. Putting the items on floating plates creates then an unusual landscape.

Each item is set in a distance to the other one, on the round plate. They seem vividly centripetal although still separated into a continuity like an everyday landscape. By making a one leg per plate as a column structure, linking and in tension, the visibility of wooden floor payments is enhanced. In the basement floor were exhibited the Daily Calendar with light only. On the second floor was a shop that gained a theatrical configuration with the present central void and stairs. 365 continues to exhibit around Japan, like in A-factory in Aomori, Tokyo Station, Pola Gallery Ginza, the 21st Century Museum of Contemporary Art, Kanazawa are planning to produce a variety of different experiences in each specific place the exhibition reached.
