ArchDaily Architect’s Holiday Gift Guide 2011: Part Two

Why: Designed by Charles and Ray Eames for Herman Miller®, the Eames® Lounge and Ottoman is a timeless design with a “warm, receptive look of a well-used first baseman’s mitt.” This is the perfect chair to entice any busy architect to put their feet up and take a quick break. The hand-assembled Eames® Lounge and Ottoman has been in continuous production since its introduction in 1956 and is considered one of the most significant designs of the 20th century. The seat is balanced on a five-start, die-cast aluminum base with adjustable stainless steel glides for uneven floors. It is constructed to last and available in Spinneybeck® Vicenza leather – a high-quality, Greenguard-certified leather with a breathable finish that protects against UV rays and spills.

Why: Designed by Bill Stumpf and Don Chadwick, the Aeron Chair is the most well-known ergonomic office chair ever made. Upholstery is replaced with the breathable, form-fitting Pellicle suspension that forms to every body shape, reducing pressure points and allowing you to become one with your chair. The superior ergonomics keeps your spine aligned, blood circulating and allows for natural body movements in order to keep you comfortable and focused all day long. On top of all that goodness, more than half of that chair is made from recyclable materials and the chair itself is 94 percent recyclable.
