The main idea of the urban and architectural plan for this proposal by Ryszard Swarabowicz, Marek Golec, Anna Liput, Milena Klecha and Dagmara Olejniczak was to create a space that will offer visitors a huge advantage of permanent experience and opportunity of being “in the middle of the experiment”. Additionally, the exposed feature of the experience was its unpredictability. This idea was born during the study themes of the center, it is the unpredictability, which is most often associated with the forces of nature. To achieve this goal – ceaseless experience – the building was designed as a dynamic form, equipped with modern glass technology, which allows to set the limits of transparency of the object. The project area is located in the newly developing area, near the airport and is surrounded by the Expo Center, WOW Istanbul Hotel and Airport Shopping Mall. Metro station and highway, subway and bus lines, which are nearby offers easy access to both pedestrian and vehicle traffic. Location of the Center among such important buildings and space determinant is obliging. Referring to these elements and extensive study of suggested camera shots there were defined the basic viewpoints of the project. As a result of marking out the camera grid construction in the designated area there was set an area (about 13 000 m2) for further studies.

The experience

The variety of forms in space used in the project and introduced solutions have allowed to define the structure as an investment with a variety of scenic spaces – spaces which are vertical horizontal, predictable or not predictable. Clearly outlines the resignation of a typical “museum” order that is the object with the hall, for private, intimate, and semi-public terraces. The strength of the experience depends on the point of the observation (from a distance or at close quarters), the level of observation (from bridges, from the ground floor) and the speed of movement (man, car, subway), and the building that is designed in a such way, dominate in the background of the surrounding landscape, becomes the only and unique showcase place. Users of wheeled transport arteries are involved in continuously changing solid/building, and this will certainly contribute to being a leading tourist attraction.

Glass Technology “SGG PRIVA-LITE” on the facade

Glass Technology “SGG PRIVA-LITE” allows you to replace the glass from frosted to translucent, giving a feeling of complete privacy. It is a glass of controlled translucency. Technology was designed for applications such as walls, doors and sliding doors in the halls and training rooms, flooring, windows customer service, as well as windows and glass facades in the form of individual and complex. The possibility of obtaining on-demand frosted or translucent glass is a valuable feature, allowing for the free creative space.

The concept of architectural and urban design

Intention was to create a composition of outer space (urban) and internal (architectural) in the solid form to emphasize the continuity and interdependence of these spaces. The form of the project is typically a continuation, architecture coexists with urban planning, together they form a whole foundation. The main building structure is dominant over the terrain and is a contrast to neighboring buildings. Select the richness of forms through the dynamic movements in the formation of a solid silhouette. At the same time through its half-transparent structure is a part of a string of urban development, without too persistent violations. Amazes every part of it. The observer cannot stop on one element, tries to remember, but the building has its own dynamics and history, varying depending on the distance vision, from the time of day, the shadow play. Through the pioneering use of new glass technology “PRIVA-LITE” on the facade, the building cannot be learned by heart. The architecture also defines the sequence of pedestrian overpasses, which is a contrast to the front of the building and parking, objects coexisting with the urban part.

Vehicular traffic

In order to improve the level of communication between pedestrians and wheeled users and to obtain collision-free circulation, a circular communication is led to a level of 10.00 m in a closed ramps. Main thoroughfares are based on the pattern of access to the land plots from each point of entry. Bridges designed for two-sided vehicular traffic lead directly to the closed parking lot. Housing footbridges is to soundproofing noise. Applied on the outside glass technology “PRIVA-LITE” allowing insight into the interior until they approach a pedestrian facility will protect users from excessive contact with the vehicle transportation, while building experience to participate in it. The effect of elevation of the unpredictability of footbridges will further strengthen the way in their development through a number of refraction of glass surfaces. Communing with such created space becomes then an adventure for the recipient, the concept stresses the role of continuous experience in the process of exploring the whole foundation. Pioneering is the solution of introducing the vehicular traffic bridge in the facade of the main building so that this effect is extracted during the close observing.

Pedestrian traffic

With a separate vehicular traffic area, pedestrian circulation users can take place at any level in a free and collision-free way. Besides the ground floor communication, the spiral sequences were introduced at different levels of bridges that provide access to both individual rooms in the building and the outdoor spaces. Each bridge leads to determined target. Footbridges Communication is via ramps to ensure proper conditions in the facility for people with disabilities, with larger differences in the amount of levels the communication provide a lift or staircase. The biggest advantage of footbridges becomes the viewer eye-catching form, which is rich in scenic spots and lines. Each step is another viewer reception. Such form development aims at continued variety of impressions by experience, while preserving the clarity of the operation inside the footbridges.
