The Citizen Office Concept by Vitra

Vitra presents an office of possibilities called Citizen Office – one in which employees control the way they interact with their work environment. Through the creative implementation of products and arrangements that stimulate the flexible use of space for each individual, employees can choose how their work will be most productive. This promotes physical and mental well-being and reflects positively on employee performance. According to Katharina Weisflog, Marketing & Public Relations Manager for Vitra, “feeling at ease makes people more motivated and productive” which is why at Citizen Office “the workers decide autonomously which rhythm and which form is right for their respective activity at which location”.

Flip through the website dedicated to Citizen Office to get a sense of the different types of spaces developed to create this kind of flexibility.  It begins with the accessibility of public and private spaces for meetings and discussions, and becomes as simple as providing the kind of furniture that allows for flexible use.  Something as simple as a high table for project updates creates a space where people can feel comfortable standing at a table or sitting on a high stool, and spontaneously altering their position to their comfort.

Vitra’s website also provides a look at the office dynamic on the global scale and it is worthwhile to look into the “About the Concept” section that describes trends in the workplace.  Most importantly, Vitra shares its secret in “How to create a Citizen Office” – just by asking a few simple questions.
