Having been living in Villa Deys for 7 years now I must say that in ALL aspects the house fits perfect. The sandblasted swimmingpool walls prevents the postman from seeing us swimming naked.
Having had a total hip replacements 4 weeks ago and walking on crutches for 3 weeks I could move comfortable inside and I'm according to the doctors ahead of scedule due to being able to swim and excersize in the pool.
As far as the fear for slipping on the wet floor: the coating of the floor being wet was tested before being choosen. Nobody ever falls on the wet floor. It is stiff.
Those with intrest are being invited to visit us.

I agree with "sullka" when he says "2- So they are worried about the lack of colors in the bathroom, becasue seniors can lose confidence and increases teh risk of falling….that’s cool, but you just made the floor outside the pool a hazardous place", that's a real problem. Besides, that corridor is in a very important place of the house.

But, I really liked the plan and the openings, especially the pool inside a house for elder people, really good solution.

Another exceptional piece of work by Paul de Ruiter. The transparency, layering and brise soleil system reminds me a little of Sean Godsell's thinking as well, though here in a more extreme winter environment.

Perhaps the sandblasted glass is more considered for the swimmer, so they do not feel like a goldfish in a bowl but rather have control over their privacy and still manage to see what is going on around them with the lower portion of the glass clear.

To sullka, I would suggest that the water on the floor is 'staged' for the photographer and that a simple towel on the floor to stand on when you get out is all that is required.
I would be more than happy to do that every time I go for a swim.

It has a great plan. I love the open concept with the only enclosures being for the toilets (well the music room too ig uess for sound). I actually like the frosted glass round the pool. I can see how you want views and more light to come in but the glass has a misty feeling that is very atmospheric.

Great house!

What a really beautiful building. This is an example of architecture solving real problems in completely poetic and innovative ways. The layering of the house is extremely appealing. Likewise, the gesture to privacy and preventing the house from becoming a container for a swimming pool is really brilliant. The brise soleil system is lovely too. All around first class architecture.
