Man transforms the environment, interferes with nature producing spaces that harbor their daily activities. This is done by provoking change, building objects, and inserting devises into the the natural environment. This intervention, a design by Estúdio 41, suggests a reflection on the relationship between nature and artifice, proposing buildings that build: artifacts and landscape, cover and relief, shelter and open space. As the 1st place prize winner, their design creates a place where working means life quality, surrounded by leisure facilities, designed for outdoors experience. A place to exchange experiences, to learn, teach and meet. More images and architects’ description after the break.

This proposal stands in as a way of interpreting the relationship between the environment and the city, between nature and artifice. Assuming that the artifacts created by humans transform the landscape, building or destroying objects in space, means the possibility of transforming the region where it enters the group of buildings to create places where the artifacts produced by man – the buildings – constitute an extension of nature, thus establishing a friendly relationship between buildings and open spaces. In fact, the size of an intervention like the Fecomércio complex has the power to renew, lead and qualify their immediate surroundings. Understanding the power of this idea, it is proposed that most of the spaces designed to be used by users and developers and also the local community.

They identified two central issues in the implementation of complex Fecomércio RS. The first-order, programmatic, is the issue of strengthening the institutional identity, by building a reference for the region. The second issue, linked to the terrain, based on the perception of the place as something fragile and environmentally sensitive due to the proximity of ecosystems as the watershed, subject to flooding, drainage problems arising from the region.

It becomes necessary then to act on two fronts:

- Interpreting the program needs as the possibility of inventing a place – Fecomércio – with a strong identity for the city and the local community, thus building up the idea of the institution as a place of congregation, fellowship and socialization for its users and employees, regardless of how many buildings or institutions names are attached to it; - - Proposing that the spaces of permanence of users, developers and local communities are protected in a higher elevation, the idea of preserving institutional security inhabiting the same land with the weaknesses described above.

To handle these issues, it is suggested the creation of a parking garage in horizontal, shaped like a podium on which the main buildings are supported. This foundation, in addition to housing vehicles, also includes technical areas and services of the complex, allowing the use of long stay to enjoy the generous visual landscape of the region and open spaces proposed.

The coverage of this building gets landscaping, extending to the proposed park in the eastern portion of the land. It is the invention of a new topography – a relief – creating spaces for use by people who work there, live and also to the local community.
