Barcelona, Spain

Text description provided by the architects. The Les Franaqueses del Vallés house is located in the Valles Oriental region, a humming state zone between the humanized landscapes and the Natural Park of Montseny. The north face of the house has amazing views of the natural undeveloped land that includes sights from “Tibidabo”(Barcelona) to the “Turó de l’home,” a peak about 2.000m in the Montseny park.

From the access, the view is dominated by a wall of limestone that encloses the courtyard. The house protects the back garden from unwished sights offering privacy. The view of the building from the swimming pool show us a house absolutely opened to the end of the inside courtyard.

As we approach the house from the entrance, the paved surface gets reduced and the grass begins dominate until bushes and grass blend as an extension of the natural environment, connecting the edges of the house with the natural field that surrounds it. The garden has been restocked with native Mediterranean trees and bushes in order to break the edge line between the natural and humanized worlds.

The house is organized around a courtyard the brings in the natural light. The front glazed side of the court acts as a space of circulation and connection of all the rooms, making a dilution between the outside and the inside of the house. The court is the main part of the house, with the flexibility to adapt to different uses. The owner can open or close the court with the intention to communicate with the outside landscape or to use it as a private outdoor sanctuary.

The four rooms of the kids are situated on the east side of the house and the connection area is a room for living and playing. This space can be isolated from the rest of the house by a sliding door of the same oak wood that is used for the floor. The couple's room is situated on the north-east side, with large views of the natural landscape and the swimming-pool. The entrance to the room is through a court that isolate it from the rest of the rooms, while giving a natural light to the dress-room and the private bathroom.

The kitchen and washing-room are located on the other corner of the house, near the main entrance. The central cooking island is the star of the kitchen, where huge views of the landscape and late afternoon sun are enjoyed. The washing room and the courtesy bathroom gets ventilation through a court that connects with the basement floor, generating a convection circulation of the air and hiding the space from outside sights.
