Seattle based Miller Hull Partnership has recently shared with ArchDaily that they have expanded to open an office in San Diego. Formed in 1977 the award-winning [check out our coverage of The Miller Hull Partnership here] firm’s design reputation is based on simple, innovative and authentic designs that incorporate sustainable practices.

The Miller Hull Partnership has been working in San Diego for seven years, and has a number of projects currently under way. These include the renovation of the San Ysidro Land Port of Entry, the busiest border crossing in the world (Phase 1 in construction), and the University of California San Diego Structural & Nano Materials Engineering building also in construction.

Furthermore, the firm designed the Wharf at Point Loma Marina, a mixed-use retail and commercial building that is currently open and located in Shelter Island’s America’s Cup Harbor and Pier 32 Marina on San Diego Bay in National City. The firm is currently working with a private marina client on a feasibility study.

Design partner Craig Curtis, FAIA, and managing partner Norman Strong, FAIA, will be splitting their time between the Seattle and San Diego offices.

“San Diego and Seattle are similar cities with water and natural resources playing important roles in the built environment. Both cities have an informality and an openness to new design ideas,” Strong said. “We are excited to continue our practice in San Diego — work that celebrates sustainability, craft, authenticity and revealing how things are designed and built.”

In addition to Strong and Curtis, Amber Mauer has joined the firm as the Business Development Director for San Diego. Project architects Ben Dalton and Kurt Stolle will also be practicing out of that office.

The Miller Hull Partnership specializes in award-winning design for public and private buildings that actively engage their communities. Miller Hull’s built work spans a wide range of project types such as schools, interpretive, community and nature centers, museums, city halls and public administration buildings, libraries, higher education facilities, mixed-use buildings, laboratories, corporate offices, condominiums and residences. The Miller Hull Partnership has received more than 200 design awards, and is the recipient of the National Firm Award from the American Institute of Architects.
