This week we are taking our Architecture City Guide to South Beach. Miami’s architectural styles range from austere corporate architecture, as it has the largest concentration of international banks in the United States, to colorful and playful architecture that reflects its beach and Latin American culture. Architecture lovers can’t miss Miami Beach’s Art Deco District or its old Spanish heritage. We have put together a list of 12 contemporary buildings that range from a small park pavilion to the Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts. How could there be a Miami architecture guide without mentioning any buildings by Arquitectonica?!!
Thank you for your response. I agree that Arquitectonica has contributed a great deal to Miami’s architectural fabric. Their design for the American Airlines Arena is featured in this city guide, but one could certainly argue that more of their projects could have made the list.
and carlos zapata at lincoln road and at the airport,,, and bernard tschumi at the university, and the Philip Johnson library………..no to mention any stream line buildings….. very incomplete my friend…
those are all great ones to have on the list. we have been limiting our city guides to only 12 so it is impossible to feature all the buildings we would like. we enjoy our readers adding to the list so please keep commenting on other buildings. thanks
I can only imagine the size of the list if you were to mention every architecturally relevant building in Miami. I think your list is a good start.
