Paris, France

Text description provided by the architects. The customer is a young designer of talent who launches its first collection. She recovered a small workshop of the Basfroi Street, Paris XI°, previously occupied by ironmongers, to make her first shop of it. The room is not exploitable in the state, and the former occupants can’t imagine this place will be able one day to sell fashion articles.

When Blanche exposes us her attempts, we immediately understand that her needs are not only one shop, but also all the functions that a company needs to live: an office, a room conference, a workshop, storage and the conveniences which go with. Everything in 35m ², and with a very tight budget rather.

For our greater happiness, the project will not be summarized to draw 2 racks, to supervise the painter and to establish the catches. Quite to the contrary, we gonna speak program, cuts, details, structure, circulations - Showing that there is not small project and that architecture can nest in the most modest orders. As it is precisely the first order, we adopt a radical posture.

We propose a tower… a high-rise office building inside the room. The proposal surprises our client, but after all why not. We have to see large and modesty does not have its place in Business. This tower will gather all the conveniences necessary to the operation of its company and will release a maximum of surface for the showroom. To stick to the budget, we knew that it would be necessary to work with a small company which would be not expensive.

These kinds of companies which are confronted to the wild competition of the rehabilitation of small Parisian flat market. No carpenter, nor metal worker. Simply motivated craftsmen bus amused by the object to build.

Our work was to think construction in an elementary way: A structure post/beam in fir tree, bonded by squares steel commercial. A wind-bracing ensured by walls in medium doubled of a sheet of BA13.

Right staircases, not more 4steps, and all the components result from the same wood section. Rods and railing tubes are in steel, simply assembled by screw, without welding.

To build a tower at 30 years, even Perrault did not make it. This it is not the TGB, but nevertheless: 3 months of building site - 6m top - 4m ² on the ground - structure in fir tree - piled foundations - frontage placo - joineries aluminium - ventilation simple flow… the total one.
